The Security Department is at the heart of Leeds Bradford Airport’s commitment to safety. Tasked with protecting passengers, crew, staff, and the public, the team ensures the airport remains secure from any acts of unlawful interference—including terrorism, sabotage, and false threats—whether in flight or on the ground.


Operating in line with the National Aviation Security Programme and LBA’s own Airport Security Programme, the department upholds rigorous standards while delivering exceptional customer service.

What we do

Our responsibilities span multiple areas of aviation security:

Security Screening and Searching

Screening and searching of passengers, baggage, airport supplies, and vehicles

Validation of Airport Identity Cards and Vehicle Permits

Control of access to Critical Parts and Other Airside Areas of the airport

Foot patrols within terminal buildings and apron areas

Mobile patrols across airside zones and the airport perimeter

Operation and daily testing of security equipment

Responds swiftly to security incidents, minimising disruption and coordinating with emergency services under LBA’s Emergency Plans.

Ensures full compliance with aviation security regulations through regular audits, inspections, and adherence to national standards.

Works closely with internal departments, law enforcement, and external agencies to maintain a unified and effective security posture.

Delivers continuous training to security personnel, ensuring readiness and adaptability in a rapidly evolving threat landscape.
